Anime and Manga–17th century artist Hokusai”are the Japanese version of animation for adult content, as well as, (Manga) childrens cartoons. Anime refers to animated movies, some with very mature subject matter. Manga are the cartoons that our children have become very familiar with and are becoming so much of American culture. There are several genre of Anime, among them Mecha (Giant Robots), Shounen (content designed with boys in mind), Samurai (ancient warriors), and Shoujo (content for girls), and a couple of more that are not-so PG-13. Anime uses hair color, blushing, eyes, and sweat or streaks, to express emotions and characteristics. Hand gestures are also used, many that mirror the Western World, and some that are specific to Japanese people.

Tezuka Osamu is considered the father of Anime and Manga. Although Tezuka graduated from medical school, he chose to pursue a career as a cartoonist due to his childhood fascination with Walt Disney. With the popularity of Anime and Manga spreading from the east to the west, younger anime creators have developed the use of Anime and Manga to express the various genres. Some of the more famous of these artists are Akira Toriyama, Naoko Takeuchi, Shotara Ishinomori, and Rumiko Takahashi.
